LOST - phone number

This post is for everyone who ever has, or ever will try to call us on our home phone number, from a land line. Let me explain.

Our current home phone number (that we've had since 1999) has been accosted by the telecommunications cyber world.

When someone tries to call our home phone from a land line, it says that the number has been disconnected. when someone calls our home phone from a cell phone, they get through, just fine. So strange!

Anyhow, about 6 months ago, people began asking why our home phone was disconnected and we began receiving a few odd voicemails for (what I assumed was) the wrong number. Then, one day, before I pieced it all together, a gentleman called me and told me that we had the SAME phone number. WHAT?!?!

Yes, this guy just moved and AT&T assigned him our phone number.
Apparently the appointment confirmation voice mails that I had been deleting were for his family. Oops!

Now what?! Joel spent some time talking to both companies and surprise, surprise...neither can figure out what is going on.

We've been toying with getting rid of our land line for a while, but just never did it. I think it's time.

In the meantime if you need to call us, please call our cell phones, or call our home phone from your cell phone.

Now that is bizarre. We have vonage and it's been great to have a 616 area code phone number even though we live in the middle east. It allows us to call people in MI and also 1-800 numbers for customer service on products, etc. My family loves that fact they can call me from their cell phones, basically for free. However, we occasionally get wrong number calls at really odd times of day (we're 7 hours ahead of Michigan). I have a lot of fun telling the person they're calling the middle east. They usually get scared that they're racking up some huge telephone bill. Um Tulip
