I shouldn't be blogging...

...right now.

In fact, I'm sitting in the exact same spot and mildly stressing about the same thing as I was nearly two years ago

All of our pre-adoption paperwork is done, and has been done. This time our final approval (i.e. when we're officially waiting for a placement) hinges on us and and our ability to finish our profile. In case you don't already know, an adoption profile is a 4-page brochure, about us, that a birth mom will review when deciding whom to choose as adoptive parents. So, yes, this is a pretty big deal. And, I want to have it just so. The text is one thing and the photos we choose are another.

I have all the text, just way too much of it. I'm weeding out words one-by-one so that I can come close to the text maximum of 950 words. Odd how I couldn't come up with a 1200 word term paper in high school and now I can't seem to write anything in less than 1500 words.

We also have the task of choosing the 6 photos that will have a huge impact on who or who does not choose us as adoptive parents. We all know how photos impact first, words second. I'm including 5 of the 6 photos that we'll (possibly) use in our profile. I'm seeking comments here, perhaps even some constructive criticism. Keep in mind that a birth mom wants to see us, our personality, lifestyle, sense of fun and adventure, etc. Let me know what y'all think. Even some of you non-commenting blog lurkers...time to come out of the closet!

Interior 3 (very tentative, might be replaced
w/ a photo of just Joel and I doing some random activity)

Interior 4

And, the interior 5 photo has not yet been taken. It will be a photo and Joel and I in/on/around a fire truck. It may sound cheesy, but this is one of the items that Emma's birth mom mentioned when we met for the first time. Obviously I'm not banking on the same situation or reaction by a birth mom, but this eventual photo still defines a part of who and what we are.

As much time and work we are putting into this, we acknowledge that God is in control and it'll all happen in his timing!

Brenda,
You are a lovely family and a woman would be crazy not to pick you. Your pictures show that you are loving and fun and family-centered and active. This must be very hard thinking how to present yourselves so that your profile attracts prospective mothers more than other profiles, but I'm certain that your sincerity and spirit with shine through the words you write and the smiles on the pictures you've chosen and will touch the heart of just the right mom. I'll be praying for just that. God bless!

I love the pictures. That one of you and Joel is awesome. Not to sound cheesy, but it totally captures the love you guys have for each other! I think I would replace the one of your parents, and maybe do a picture of you guys with all the nieces and nephews? Maybe include both sets of parents too? I also think you should have one of just you, Joel and Emma. There's not one of just the three of you.

All the pics are great! I agree with Lynn about getting one of the three of you but I actually like the one of your parents and nephews and nieces because it shows a big family full of love with a grandpa & grandma that are involved.

I love the last one of you & Emma too. Good thing you went to Fred's garden recently. :)

The first thing that I noticed that there was no picture of the three of you - I think that you must add that. I also like the picture of your parents and nieces and nephews - it shows the support of your whole family and the closeness - which is a strength. As a whole the pictures are great and capture you as individuals and as a family.

I love the one of the cousins and your parents! Let me know when I need to come to the fire station for that last pic!

All the pictures you have chosen show a fun and loving family that any birth mom should be very confident in choosing. A picture of you, Joel and Emma together either candid or posed would be a great addition though!

You need a picture of the three of you together! :) I also like the idea of one of the two of you by a firetruck. I can understand how that would feel like a must if your first birthmom mentioned it.

((hugs)) Best of luck with your profile! Such a daunting task.
