We are officially WAITING!! We hand delivered our profiles to the agency on Monday and as of this week we could potentially be parents at anytime! Being the planner that I am...this period of unknown will be a true test (albeit a good lesson for parenthood I'm sure).
We are trying to prepare, yet not go overboard before we know something. As it stands, we must be prepared for any one of several scenarios. We could get a call tomorrow saying there is an available child waiting for a family. We could get a call that matches us with a birth mom giving us a couple month wait or, we could wait for many, many months while hearing nothing at all. If I had to choose, I'm not sure that I could. Thank goodness it is not up to us and it is all in God's hands!
Something has become apparent to me as we have started and continue to do all the pre-baby things that new parents do. Some of these tasks include subscribing to all the baby magazines, signing up for FREE forumla samples (and anything else FREE for that matter!), reading the right "what to expect" baby-rearing books and registering for anything baby related.
What I've noticed is that there is little to no thought given to those who might be adopting. I'm not mentioning this to gain any sort of sympathy, but more so to vocalize my surprise of something that never even crossed my mind. As I was signing-up/registering/reading it was suggested or required that we were pregnant. Every website that I registered for something-or-another on, asked me for the baby's expected birth date, which we obviously do not know. So, I thought I'd be smart and just leave it blank. Not a chance. An error message told me that we were not going to recieve or be signed-up for whatever it was until I supplied an expected arrival date. So, I chose one.
Let me just say that if we become parents on January 1, 2006...I will keel over from laughter.
