I've really been tardy with updates, but I have a good reason :) A quick update... we actually did have our second home study interview last Tuesday and are prepared to have our final home study meeting this Tuesday, in our home! I'm not nervous and can't imagine that they'd find anything except a quintessential baby-palace here! We haven't done much preparation yet except to clear out what will be the baby's room and put a rocker and bookshelf in place.
The biggest task that we've completed (rough draft at least) and what is typically the hardest for any adoptive family in this process, is the profile. This is the 3-page brochure on us. We had to cram our life into about 1000 words with pictures and all! Needless to say, as I like to talk, I like to write so I ran about 700 words over...oops! I guess I'll have to figure out what to cut out before the final copy is approved. In the meantime, our case worker is reviewing this piece of literary art, in hopes that she'll give me her unfiltered professional opinion. I'm prepared to re-write and re-work it several times before we let any birthmom see it.
The other part to this profile are the pictures. Since our latest cat-walk portfolio is being held hostage by some Italian fashionista, we had to defer to recent snapshots by family members. How do you go about choosing pictures that a birthmom will see so she'll choose you to parent her child??!! This was a source of much anxiety until my father-in-law and a couple dear friends stepped in. We had some photos taken last Saturday and then again this Saturday that were profile-worthy.
We are getting to the point where we will soon begin to wait for a birthmom to choose us. Whether a day or 6 months...it will feel like a million years to me. I hope and pray to the Lord that we remain calm and have a deep sense of peace in the days ahead!
