Travel

We made it to South Dakota safe and sound, albeit a couple hours later than expected. We do this trip every year with my mom (over Memorial Day) to go see my grandma. This year I was a tad apprehensive with a very "busy" three-year old and a 7-week old. Actually, I wasn't that concerned with Sam since I knew he'd sleep most of the time, and he did.

On the other hand, Emma is constantly on the move and the thought of keeping her belted in her seat for 14 hours seemed overwhelming. I'm happy to report that she did absolutely amazing. She never had a melt-down, took two naps and frankly was happy for most of the ride to either talk, sing or look out the window. The personal DVD player and various other activities we brought along helped fill in the gaps.

Emma figured out chapter-skip-rewind so we heard various song clips
of the Sound of Music about 20 times. The songs are still running through my head.

We had lots of time to be silly

We had lots of time to laugh

Grandma bought Emma a sucker at a rest stop and it
kept Emma quiet and busy for quite a while, good call.

Sam slept for nearly the entire trip, though he had
a meltdown the last 20 minutes of what turned out to
be a 16 hour trip. Thank goodness we were almost there!
