Fractured Radius

It's official. We have our first broken bone in our family. Neither Joel, or I have ever broken a bone (yikes! should I have just said that?).

We aren't 100% sure what happened but somehow Emma got into a tangle with one of her small wooden chairs in her bedroom. Joel was right there and heard the tumble and turned around to see Emma's arm pretty twisted in the spokes of the chair and right away noticed that the bends he saw in her arm didn't look good.

Being the highly trained First-Responder that he is, Joel ran Emma through a battery of tests to see if she did in fact, break a bone. Emma could not perform anything Joel asked her to so he immediately suggested we leave for the urgent care. Plus, Emma's cry was an indication since she rarely cries long or hard. She was doing both. So, once Joel's parents arrived to man the house while Sam was sleeping, we were off.

After a three-hour visit, where Emma often and loudly asked "why is the doctor making us wait so long," we returned home. Emma has a hard splint on right now, but she'll get re-cast once we visit the orthopedic surgeon next week.

Emma is adjusting very well to the cast and sleeping like a champ. She seems to use her shoulder, elbow or mouth to compensate for her left hand that she can not use. It's pretty cute.
