Grandma Vander Ley

I'm so grateful to have JUST visited my 86 year old Grandma (my mom's mom) as we received some bad news today. My Grandma had had a stroke this morning - a fairly severe one, on the right side of her brain. While we don't know the complete damage from the stroke, it appears that the left side of her body is paralyzed. Thankfully, her mind was not affected and she has been talking and alert.

I'm just so sad to think that she may, more than likely, not go back to her independent living center called Leisure Living. When my Grandpa died nearly three years ago, she made an absolutely seamless transition to the independent living center and continues to rave about it whenever we talk with her. In fact, my family jokes that she is THE social coordinator for all 20 residents who live there. Joel claims the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...

Anyhow, I ask that you please pray for my Grandma and her recovery, for all the health care workers who surround her, my aunt Margie in SoDak who is taking care of her (my Grandma) now, and my mom as she contemplates how and when to travel back to SoDak to be with her mom. Your prayers would mean a lot to me!

Here is a little video of Emma and my Grandma, from last week, after we had JUST arrived in South Dakota after day-2 of an 8 hour ride.

Oh Brenda. Thinking of you and your family.

By the way, the pic of your hubby and Emma on your header is quite simply precious. And I don't use the word precious very often. :)
