Saturday, Joel, Emma and I went to visit the dump. What else would you do on a gorgeous Saturday in April?! Eric from our small group works at Waste Management and he always has loads of interesting stories to tell (he drives one of those huge steel-wheeled deals right in the trash!) and I finally bugged him enough so that he relented and offered to take the three of us on the grand tour. If you have never seen a place like this in action, I highly recommend it. I personally think it'd be wise for all grown-ups to tour a dump like this and see what mounds and mounds of trash look like.
I thought I knew what happened to trash, but I really didn't. Seeing it in action, or at least explained to me, with the aid of visually being there really made me think. In an effort to not bore or gag you with my tiny thought process, I just have to say that I have a new found vigor to lessen our family's waste - reduce, re-use, recycle!
While I'm not a super environmental activist, or beholden to the latest trend or book on being "green," I simply believe it is my duty as a Christian to properly care for this beautiful creation that I love, which God has entrusted to us (stepping off soapbox now).
So there you go! My two cents on being green, although Eric did say he doesn't want to loose his job :) Ha - I think he'll be safe (as will the industry) for year and years to come.

this massive beast and pushes around our garbage while dodging
those "lovely" birds we call seagulls.

You can't really see, but I have Emma in crocs (shoes w/ holes).
What was I thinking??! I was a bit fearful of the
brown liquid that had seeped into her shoes.
4 thing(s) you said:
I'm glad you enjoyed your tour. Next time you will have to come soemtime during the week so I can take a longer lunch while to push the trash.
Eric
I mean... while YOU push the trash.
I also meant sometime, not soemtime. Hey what do you want from somebody who works at a dump?
What a fun field trip! I have a little boy who would love to see those "chines" (machines) in action!
great post and pictures!! I agree with your thoughts on being a good steward without going "crazy green"
