The title of this entry may peek your interest. Well, in case that it has, here is the story. Joel once tasted my Grandma's, South Dakotan, canned beef (a truly dying art that is a lot of work, but it produces delightfully moist, morsels of beef!) and his life has never been the same. In fact, he's decided to carry on my Grandma's canned meat legacy by holding his own, annual, meat-canning-fest. If canned meat sounds gross to you, I dare you to try it...just once.
So, the Hudsonville Community Fair is taking place this week and Joel, for the first time, entered a jar of his canned meat. We took a trip out to the fair tonight to see how his entry ranked among the competition. Being it was Joel's first time participating in "competitive meat," we expected nothing but hoped for the best. The yellow ribbon let us know that Joel received 5th place. Here is a picture of the competition, including Joel's entry. Joel is eager to try again next year and I think I might enter some canned tomatoes as well.
We also enjoyed walking around and looking at all the beautiful farm animals. Emma especially enjoyed the roosters and rabbits.
