We've talked about getting rid of it since February 2008, but never did. Then we discussed it's use only at nap and bedtime, but it didn't work. We tried to keep them hidden when guests were over, it always failed. Finally, we gave up and made the hard-core decision that after our trip to South Dakota, the almighty pacifier, used by our adorable, almost-3-and-a-half-year-old HAD. TO. GO.
Oh, and I must give a shout out to my dear, supportive friend and her kind, encouraging words ("Emma looks simply ridiculous with that thing in her mouth") that helped give me the courage to move forward with the pacifier weaning :)
Tonight's the night. We are packing up all the pacifiers (we've found four, but know there are several more lurking in corners, under beds and in toy bins), heading to Toys R Us and "buying" Emma a toy with her pacifiers. We've been building this night up for a while now and she seems pretty excited. She has her mind set on a "Barbie stamper" which we have NO clue about. We hope Toys R Us carries it.
The only thing mom (and dad) are worried about is that she continues to sleep like a rock star.
I'm sure all you moms out there are scoffing at my weakness to rid my child of her juvenile pacifier habit and I'll admit it, I was weak, but here's to NO. MORE. PACIFIERS. for Emma!

Great final pic of EP and her Nuk. Totally cracking up.
Emma, Auntie loves you and meant "ridiculous" in the most loving way possible.
You are such a big girl and I can't wait to soak my piggies in your new Barbie pool! (J/K)
And to my dear friend,B,I'm relying on you to be MUCH more supportive and understanding when I am going through this transition in a year & a half (LOL). You always have been the 'better' friend in our relationship~
She looks like a GIANT in the carseat! Funny.
